I met an old friend in the shop today. One of those quiet, unexpected encounters that slips into the day without warning. We were both standing at the bakery counter, scanning the rows of bread, moving slowly along the same shelf until suddenly we looked up and recognised each other.

She used to be my colleague — always polite, always steady, the kind of person whose presence softened the edges of a busy day. I often met her after work too, usually with her child beside her, and she always carried the same calm warmth wherever she went.

Seeing her again felt like stepping briefly into an earlier chapter of my life. We started talking, and the conversation unfolded easily, as if no time had passed at all. Some people simply have that effect — they open a small space where you can linger for a moment, even in the middle of a shop aisle.

I remembered how she used to insist on simple courtesies at work. Not in a strict way, just in her own quiet style. Everyone knew she valued those small words — please, thank you — and somehow her presence made people remember them without being told. It was simply part of who she was.

Standing there between the shelves, I found myself noticing the small details: the way her eyes brightened when she laughed, the familiar tilt of her head when she listened, the gentle rhythm of reconnecting with someone who once shared your everyday world.

A small moment. A familiar face. A reminder of how many stories we carry with us, and how they sometimes meet us again in the most ordinary places.

May you notice one small story around you today.

Thank you for visiting my quiet corner of the internet.
