The Bat on the Night Shift

Late on the patio, I watched a small bat zigzag through the evening air, catching insects as it went. Its flight was quick and wonderfully unpredictable—like a sketch drawn in darkness.

This quick ballpoint-pen sketch shows a small bat flying toward the viewer, its wide wings stretched across the page. Fine, energetic lines describe the wing bones, folds, and furry body. Long, sweeping lines around the bat suggest the air currents and sudden turns of its nighttime flight. The loose, unfinished style captures the brief moment when the bat appeared above the patio before disappearing into the darkness.
